WHAT IS A NARRATIVE
Narratives allow users to create reports comprised of data visualizations and text. This allows for a user to create a richer context and to develop a story surrounding their data. Much like Dashboards, users can share narratives with other Insight users for them to read and review. When a user shares a narrative it will only be available to those shared in view only mode.
Like Dashboards and Visualizations, visualizations within Narratives will be refreshed daily with any updates to the data. Therefore, if there is no filter applied to a single visualization for a specific period of time or to the entire Narrative, data may change when refreshed. It is important to ensure when creating a Narrative that you are cognisant of this fact and users ensure the data matches the text content.
Text & Visualization
A narrative is made up of two main components, text and visualization. Within the text option, a user has many options for formatting their text, as illustrated in the GIF below.
Within the visualization option, a user may choose from a list of their already created visualizations or chose to create a visualization from scratch, as demonstrated in the GIF below.
ADJUSTING NARRATIVE CONTENT & ADDING FILTERS
Users have the ability to adjust their narratives with just a few clicks in a similar manner to how Dashboards are adjusted. If you would like to re-arragne content simply click the arrow buttons to move blocks of content up or down within your Narrative. If you wish to clear the content you can simply click the X button and start fresh.
Users can also add filters to an entire Narrative and its visualizations. This is accomplished in a similar fashion to filtering an entire dashboard. In the GIF below you will see that all visualization will only look at data from Spring 2016 term. This instantly changes what data is displayed in our Narrative.
